Students need 21st-century skills to be successful in our information age. I currently teach Spanish to Native Spanish speakers. Our current curriculum is old and we have no novels or other interesting reading material to support students' target language learning. The students I work with are predominantly low socio-economic and have not been reclassified as fluent in English. This is one way we can support their acquisition of English - making sure they have an understanding of their native language.
