One of the most challenging aspects of an immersion classroom is the time constraints. Each day, as the English partner classroom, we cover all of the language arts skills covered in a typical classroom, but with a fraction of the time. It is critical that we have the resources to move quickly and to address individual needs. The two laptop computers requested as part of this project will be used daily by students to improve critical literacy and language skills. Each student will have opportunities throughout the year to utilize apps and online content on the laptops to improve reading fluency, grammar skills, personal vocabularies, spelling, and writing capabilities. Students needing ESL support will have access to apps and online programs proven to improve content and language learning for students whose home language is not English. This access will be need-based, with each student utilizing the laptops to fill a need as makes sense in the context of their present abilities and their eventual academic goals. The presence of greater technology in the classroom would create an environment where all students can better achieve their potential and meet high academic standards.
