The use of these instruments will help my music students build a better foundation of basic rhythm and musical knowledge. These instruments will also help us explore the history of Latin and Hispanic musical styles. Our classroom only has one pair of congas and they have been used so much the heads cannot hold a tuning. This makes them basically useless in the music classroom. Each of these selected instruments will serve a special purpose in helping students research the history of the instrument and learn to play Latin rhythms. This will give my students a hands on view of musical history as opposed to only what they here on the radio. Through the implementation of this musical project students will learn about math skills include number lines and fractions as well as Hispanic musical history. This is a great benefit to all of the homeroom teachers in my school, as we work together to seek the academic and creative success of all our students. Studies have shown that students involved in music programs consistently perform better in mathematics. I seek to provide them with an effective and fun music program each and every day. These instruments will also be used by students in a performance for our schools Hispanic Heritage night. Parents will have the opportunity to see what their students have learned. Students who are interested in the musical arts will have the opportunity to show parents their talents! Thank you for your consideration of this project.
