Every single day my students work hard to become better readers and thinkers. Unfortunately, many of them are performing below grade level. Many of our students do not have an abundance of books in their homes, and they do not have opportunities to read and share their reading experiences with someone at home. Students are grouped in desks, but they are bulky, and it makes meeting in small groups very difficult and noisy. This is especially true for struggling readers and students who lack confidence. The small groups sitting at a kidney table will enable me to meet with my small groups with minimal distractions and the space to build student literacy.
