I would like to get more tools (fidgets) for students to use in my classroom. All of my students use different tools to help them stay calm or to calm down and self-regulate. I currently have 1 container of putty and 5 students who want to use it. I have a few other tools already, however receiving the requested tools will give an increased and better variety for my students to choose from. My students use these tools to help them stay focused in class. These tools will give them something for their hands to do, while seated and learning. Occasionally my students will also use the tools to help 'slow' themselves down. For example: using putty when upset, he/she can squeeze and use it aggressively rather than being aggressive towards someone or to their self.
My students have significant support needs and each utilizes a variety of tools to help them maintain focus and safe behaviors throughout the day. Having more tools within the classroom will give additional options for my students, so they will hopefully find their ideal calming tool and increase their ability to self-regulate.
