Our school is a Charter School that uses an Expeditional Learning (EL) model which encourages hands-on learning that is project based, and cross curricular. Students are in grades 6-8 and come from several surrounding towns. The school has a large Brazilian population, and truly celebrates diversity. My students are primarily on IEP's and many have specific math goals. I teach eighth grade and sixth/seventh mixed sub-separate classes. All of the students are thirsty for knowledge. Although they all have many gaps, they all want to volunteer to come up to the board and work through problems. We use standards-based grading, so learning targets are created to align with the Common Core. Students are graded on how they meet the targets.
