I teach first grade inclusion in the Boston Public Schools, where most of my students come from low-income households and do not have access to books at home. My scholars are a wonderfully diverse group comprised of students with special needs and english language learners. Everyday my students enter the classroom excited to learn. I want to be able to nurture and expand their love for learning through exposure to captivating books. However, because we do not have a library in our school, it is my responsibility to fill our classroom library with quality texts. Currently, my library has an extremely limited amount of books. Even so, during free time almost every single one of my students requests to explore our books, and most choose read-aloud as their favorite part of every day.
