As part of a balanced literacy approach, I provide small group instruction based on each student’s academic area of focus. To ensure that I meet the needs of each student, students rotate through “centers,” which is Team 111’s favorite time of the day! While I meet with a small group, other students complete various tasks such as “read-to-self,” “write-to-self,” work on iPads, or “math jobs.” Currently, our class does not have a conducive space for small-group learning. We work at a small round table that can fit three students at most, so materials often overlap when there are more students. Sometimes, we work on the floor, but handling clipboards, books, and writing materials is challenging for students. Having a dedicated area for small group instruction will help us focus on reaching our learning targets!
