Currently, I have one globe and one atlas to share among six classes of sixth graders. The addition of these materials will allow my students to have one globe and atlas to every four students. It is important for students to have an accurate spatial understanding of the world around them. Utilizing globes and current atlases will place accurate, quality tools in their hands. When learning world geography, it is important for students to have experience working with globes as other map projections have a great deal of distortion, which limits a child's spatial understanding. This will encourage development of critical skills and foster a greater understanding of the world around them.
