This year my students and the community have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey. So to get students back into learning and enjoying being here at school I decided to do a cool activity with t-shirts and poetry. Poetry is often met with an "Aww man poetry" in my classroom so I thought why not make it fun. Students will create a shape poem about an item that is important to them. The poem will be in that shape and they will create a t-shirt with their poem on it. My students need a heat press, Cricut machine, vinyl, and teflon sheets to create shirts during their figurative language and poetry lesson. I want my students to get excited about poetry and all of its elements. Tupac has a poem titled The Rose That Grew From Concrete. I want my students to grow from this poetry lesson and take a piece of it with them for the rest of their education.
