The population I serve is inner city students whose families have recently immigrated to the United States. For some of them, this is the first formal education they have received. All the students in my classroom are English language learners, which means the majority of the students come from homes where English is not their first language and often is not spoken at all. I am continually amazed that my students are able to learn to read, count, and write while also learning a new language! We are a Title I school with 98% of the students receiving free or reduced priced lunches. I need to make every minute count in my students' education. Assessment is a very important part of school but it takes a very long time to test twenty-four students individually.
