The students in South Central Los Angeles have a passion for nature that has only begun to be fully realized through our trips outdoors. This year, the students have participated in three group hikes and two group camping trips, where students got to experience first-hand the importance and preciousness of our natural world. Through these trips, our students have become passionate advocates for nature and its protection. Integrating the week long trip to Yosemite National Park into their environmental science curriculum has solidified the students' connections with wilderness and their own conscientiousness regarding the impact that their decisions have on the world around them. My goal as the adviser of the Wilderness Leadership Club is to provide students with the materials and opportunities to further explore their connections to the outdoors. My students have an enormous capacity and interest in protecting our natural world - these tents and sleeping bags will help them develop and internalize those ideals.
