I teach in one of the inner high schools in Baltimore City where 99% of my students receive FARMS or Free and Reduced Meals. I work in a school where there is too much budget constraints where even a pencil is not a part of the budget in the school. I spent 3 years buying almost all the materials my students need spending about 300 to 500 dollars each year to provide them with resources and school supplies they need in the classroom. I teach special education students in the Life Skills Program who are mentally limited. Their mental abilities range from Pre-K to Grade 3. Most of them are visual and tactile learners and they do better when they see pictures or get to hold them.
