A comfortable classroom promotes a sense of well-being, keeps minds focused, and limits distractions. When kids are uncomfortable, they are distracted, wander around, and can be disruptive to other students. Classroom furnishings play a role in a student being comfortable. I have tried flexible seating with 2 balance ball chairs. I noticed my ADHD and autistic student were more focused and their productivity increased. They were able to engage in tasks longer than when they were stuck sitting in their hard desk chair. I would love the opportunity to expand my seating options and offer seating choices to a larger portion of my inclusion classroom. Diversity among the student population is increasing. The challenge for me, is to create classroom spaces that can be flexible enough to adapt to this diversity and enhance the learning experience for all students, regardless of their educational needs and learning goals.
