My school is a Title 1 school, which means that high percentages of our student population are from low-income families. The majority of our students, 80%, participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. More than 60% of our student population consists of English Language Learners (English is their second language). The average reading level for our student population is around 4th grade. All of the students in my classroom are excited to learn about science. Every day they ask me, "Are we doing a lab today!" They love "acting like a scientist" and participating in labs. It is thrilling to see how labs can spark my students' creativity.
