My school is a 5th and 6th grade campus. We are a Title I school due to low socioeconomic status in the majority of the community; including 92% at risk students, 87% Hispanic students and the other 13% of the students are combined with African American, Asian, or other. We service approximately 1,100 students campus wide and every student attends Physical Education daily. The students are very diverse in a variety of ways but for the most part, all of them enjoy variations of P.E. My goal is to make sure that every student leaves here with the knowledge of fitness/health/wellness and the desire to find ways to continue to stay active. My students do not have a lot of opportunity to go outside and play in their neighborhoods or join athletic teams, whether it is due to financial difficulties, parents working, or lack of access. I observe students who may want to find ways to become active, they just do not know exactly how yet. I want to give them opportunities to get fit and stay fit.
