Our classroom is limited to only three desktops for the students to use. Desktops are great, but are hard to use when the students are trying to work with partners or in groups. We were able to checkout ipads last year for a research project and the excitement from being able to use mobile technology helped them succeed even more in the end. The students documented facts by taking pictures, watching videos, and looking up facts to support their research. It's amazing what a young group of children can accomplish with technology today. My class is mainly Hispanic and the language barrier is a major issue. Ipads will assist in their ability to have translations available, apps that will have both English and Spanish, as well as tools that will help them succeed in an English speaking classroom.
This group of children want the same opportunities to learn as other classrooms with more technology. Being able to use technology is essential for students today and giving them all the tools needed to be successful will be a blessing for them. These children come to school every day with an open mind and are eager to see what the world holds for them!
