My project will assist student in their reading and listening skills. By the end of first grade, the students will improve their reading and listening skills and many will begin to read books with short chapters and fewer illustrations.
The students really enjoy listening to the stories while they read along. This is one of my favorite centers during center time. Everyone wants to go to this center. I would really like to make this a more enjoyable center for my students by updating my cassette player and getting really good books from Lakeshore.
The listening center is over twenty-three years old. This is pretty old! It has a dated cassette player with giant headphones. I wish to replace the entire cassette player and books. I had to put a green star sticker on the play button so we knew what to push to begin the story. I also used a red star sticker for stop on the cassette player.
In my classroom today, we have the exact same materials: a cassette player with no CD or Bluetooth options and giant headphones that are much too large for first graders. It is time to update our listening center from 1990 to the 21st century. I would love to have new cassette player with many read-along books. TheCD player will also be used for music lessons, whole group listening activities, and brain breaks where the students can get up to sing and dance. The Bluetooth option is great for linking the iPod that contains nearly one hundred educational songs so the entire class can enjoy the music and learn in a fun way.
