Every child deserves to learn. I firmly believe that! Even in an old building, in the middle of downtown, in a 35' x 35' classroom packed with 42 students at a time! My students deserve to learn, too! As their teacher, I want to make the learning environment as accommodating as possible for interactive activities, TPRS experiences, and just plain, old variety! In a small classroom with desks lined from wall to wall, from front to back, and from side to side, we need something different. We need the opportunity to spread out and work in groups. We need the opportunity to rearrange the desks to reflect the activity of the day. We need the opportunity to provide a safe space for as many students who need it. Traditional classroom desks are not the answer. The desks we have selected for our project will save us space in the classroom with their smaller size. We won't be restricted to straight rows anymore in order to fit every desk in the room! And we will have the flexibility to quickly and effortlessly rearrange the chairs to meet the needs of both the lessons and the students! There will be more empty space in the classroom to be used for engaging learners in interaction and movement. Students won't be lacking in any way (there's still a usable desk space!), and most importantly they will be gaining in their potential for achievement in the future.
