Our school is one of the fastest growing schools in the county with a growth of almost 300 students since 2008. With no change to our technology inventory and the increase of computer-based testing, our access to technology is at an all time low. Of the current 932 students, 35% receive free or reduced lunch and 1 in 5 are working below grade level. A class set of Fire tablets and charging station will provide the one-to-one technology we need.
My students are full of energy and have an enthusiasm for learning. They thrive on working collaboratively and using their creativity to share what they have learned. We work with a Kindergarten class to assist in introducing new skills after we have mastered them ourselves.
Students enjoy using Kagan structures like Quiz-Quiz-Trade, Numbered-Heads Together, and Rally Table. These structures allow them to move away from paper and pencil activities and to interact with one another in a way that is accommodating to their learning styles.
