Welcome to Southwestern's Visual Art program! We are a small, public middle school serving students from all walks of life. We provide the materials and art challenges to promote "outside the box" thinking and problem solving. Students create artwork, learn about artists and art history, design products, learn about careers that utilize art skills, improve literacy through written reflections, artist statements and formal critiques; Students explore materials independently and propose alternate solutions to teacher-created projects. Students experiment with abstract thinking and reasoning. They employ math and science skills and work with the STEM lab at our school to learn about design in today's marketplace.
