The key to abstract mathematical reasoning lies in first developing a concrete understanding of the concept. To do this, students need hands-on manipulatives they can use to explore new ideas. I've noticed that students struggle with making sense of fractions. Truth be told, it is a tricky concept for many adults! Wouldn't it be wonderful if students walked away from 6th grade feeling confident in their ability to work with fractions? With the help of these magnetic pattern blocks and Cuisenaire rods, students can do just that! There are countless math games and activities they can use these tools for, so the learning opportunities are endless. The students will grow as mathematicians without the stress typically associated with FRACTIONS!
