I work at a school where nearly all students are English language learners. Every student qualifies for free and reduced meals. We actually serve breakfast lunch and dinner for children and their families everyday. The school is in a part of town some consider rough, but it acts as a community center, not only for kids and education, but for a place to be supported for childcare, meals, higher education, counseling, parenting classes, cultural events, and much more. I have 25 third graders, many who have an uphill battle in front of them, but they are willing to accept the challenge and I am willing to take them for that ride.
