My students are forth and fifth graders in Gresham, Oregon. At our school almost 90% of the students are considered economically challenged and as many as 10% are considered homeless. I am lucky enough to have a very diverse class. My students represent two Native American tribes, and seven different countries located on three continents. The are searching for knowledge beyond the basic reading, writing and math lessons asking for lessons in chemistry, biology, robotics, computer programming, world history, and government. They are an ambitious group with several setting goals to finish the year at middle school levels. They are also just as passionate about math. Every time I introduce a new concept they want to know more and take on more complicated equations. My class is made up of students who are curious, motivated and full of desire to learn and do more. If given the right tools, there capacity for growth is unlimited.
