My special needs Pre-K classroom currently consists of 10 amazing students ages 3 through 5 with varying abilities. The personal challenges they face each day range from Down Syndrome to Autism Spectrum Disorder. Still, my kids show up to school each day with smiles on their faces and love to share. They are fearless in trying new things and have a passion for learning unlike anything I have ever seen. They never let the challenges they face get in the way of their success. Many of my students are non-verbal or are not native English speakers, so the goal for me is to give them a way to communicate and connect with others. I have found that through music and dance, my kids now have a voice. When they hear music or are invited to play instruments and dance along, they light up! The most introverted and shy children in my class beam with excitement as they grab the hands of their peers and participate. It is truly magical to witness.
