Immersing children in literature helps them to not only become better readers but learn about science and history in a way that is enjoyable and engaging for them. In "A Land Remembered", Patrick Smith writes a story that takes the students back in time to the Florida frontier. The student becomes engaged and can't wait for social studies to roll around. They laugh and cry with the McIvey family as they experience the trials and tribulations of life in old Florida. We would like class sets of Volumes 1 & 2 of this great book. Literature skills such as noting important details, summarizing, finding the main idea, compare and contrast and cause and effect will be taught through "A Land Remembered."
