Over the years, I have learned the best way to reach students with the content is by exploration and experiences. This summer, I was able to witness and explore a hands-on digital Science lab at a few museums with our STEAM camp students. The engagement of these students during the labs was beyond inspiring. It gave me the idea to create a hands-on digital learning center in my own classroom. These items will create a lab/center for both Science and Math. Giving them the opportunity to take learning into their own hands by following instructions on the tablet and using the materials to explore the content. Our district provides the basics for Science materials; however, to feel like a true scientist you need to feel like you are working in a lab. With the tablet, the students will have self-guided instructions of how to work through each lab. The students will use the trays as their lab area. The trays, tablet, and laminator will also carry over into creating excellent Math centers where students can use manipulatives and task cards while staying organized during their exploration. This year, I want to help students find a love of learning again by creating new experiences within the classroom. Centers are a normal routine of school, but having a digital hands-on learning center makes the idea different, new, and exciting!
