At my school, our goal is to best prepare our students for their jobs and possible STEM careers. In my classroom, I want my learning experience to focus on improving student's literacy skills. We are a high-poverty, school of choice with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) focus. This focus pushes students to think critically and solve complex problems. We set high expectations for academic achievement, engaging students in real-world learning. Students need to have literacy skills to be successful. Our student population includes approximately 330 students across grades kindergarten to fifth. Of that population approximately 75% qualify for free or reduced lunches.
