I teach a wonderful classroom of kindergarten children in an extremely high poverty, rural area of Florida. Our school is a little safe haven where the kids come each day to be fed, loved, and educated. Every day we teach not only the academic skills they will need for success in classroom, but also the social/emotional skills they will need to be successful in life. Some of this teaching is done through technology, but a great deal of it is done through their environment as well. The items in this project are meant to enhance my classroom and make it a calming oasis in a very challenging world. David Polis famously said " Let them look at the mountains and the stars up above. Let them look at the beauty of the waters and the trees and flowers on earth. They will then begin to think, and to think is the beginning of a real education." I hope to create an environment that is much less noisy, and far more thoughtful.
