At nearly all grade levels, students are expected to develop research skills across content areas with a strong focus on nonfiction, including literary nonfiction; essays; biographies and autobiographies; journals and technical manuals; and charts, graphs, and maps. This shows that all students are being asked to develop skills and learn from nonfiction texts. Students are being asked to write and comprehend informational text on many standardized tests these days. Giving students the exposure to informational texts at a young age will put them a step ahead. By having these books in my classroom, discussions can be fostered about many different subjects. These books will be used during Independent Reading and small group guided reading.
