I believe if you are in a good place emotionally, it can make all the difference when it comes to school. So, to help combat a higher than usual level of student anxiety in my fifth grade class, I have implemented kindergarten buddies. Each of my fifth grade students is paired with a kindergartener. We get together a few times a month. During our visits, we love to have something fun to do with our buddies. This project includes activities done with our buddies like Play Doh, modeling clay and Wiki Sticks. Other aspects of this project will include fifth graders completing an art project to deliver to our buddies. For example, fifth graders will create a book for their buddies using many of the various supplies requested. The success of this project is guaranteed because it is improving the lives of both sets of students.
