My students need the opportunity to select reading materials within my classroom for DEAR and reading fluency time, but my resources are currently limited. Our school library is fabulous, but we only go to the library once a week, and materials need to be more readily available to students. In order to encourage reading on a daily basis within my classroom, I would love to have materials that fit the needs of third graders. I currently have books that are mostly above-level after teaching fourth and fifth grade for several years. My third graders are ready for a challenge, but they need a good starting point. Providing them with the opportunity to choose appropriate grade-level books, both nonfiction and fiction, will open their minds more to the world around them and give them the opportunity to grow in knowledge and understanding.
