Junior high students typically struggle with writing and solving equations as they prepare for high school math. I want to give them a solid understanding and a strong foundation base for future math classes. Giving students hands-on materials will help them visualize equations and will create concrete examples for solving equations. They will be able to manipulate algebra tiles and create equations with physical objects. Manipulatives are a proven strategy for helping students with different learning styles and will help me to differentiate my classroom. This will allow me to create problems that are individualized for each student in the room and truly help them all learn and grow.
