My educational philosophy is that every child deserves a quality education, regardless of where he or she grows up. I work in a school in the poorest Congressional district in the country. I teach 8th grade English-Language Arts to students from a broad range of academic backgrounds in a small middle school. Many of my students are English language learners, special education students or upwards of two-three years behind in reading and writing skills. All of my kids come from low-income families, and many do not have access to computers at home. In today's world, most people in this country take it for granted that they have a computer in every room of their house or an arm's reach away. However, for my students, the reality is that the achievement gap is growing - and many experts say that technological lags in impoverished neighborhoods are partly to blame. If my kids are going to be both academically and professionally competitive, they must have consistent access to technology.
