I teach at a career and technology high school. My students are economically disadvantaged high school seniors. Our goal is to create real world experiences for students and expose them to a vast number of future career paths. The course I teach is Engineering Design and Problem Solving, I give the students a challenge and they create a solution to it. This year we have created prototypes of prosthetic hands and Hybrid alternative fuel cars. I would like the students to be exposed to as many areas of engineering and design as possible. Consumer products are a big part of everyday life and I would like them to design a product to meet an everyday need. Many of the students have never had a pet, so experiencing taking care of a pet and exposing them to the idea of creating a product for them will be very exciting.
