My sixth grade students are knowledge seeking sponges. They have curiosity that could start the most interesting conversations. They brighten my day and are truly the lights of my life. My school serves low-income minority families, offering them a better alternative to the schools that they may be zoned to. We are a college preparatory middle school in Houston, Texas. Every day my students tell me stories about their lives and how they want to improve them for the future. On a daily basis we talk about their goals and what it's going to take to get them to and through college. They truly deserve the best education possible because they put in the hard work from day to day even though a large percent of them are labeled "at-risk" due to family income or other extenuating circumstances.
