Hello, I am in my 5th year as a teacher librarian in the Sioux City Community School District. Prior to being a librarian, I taught high school English. Through my experience as both a classroom teacher and school leader, I have found that students today want to be able to create. Creation has become one of the most sought after areas of education for students at all grade levels. I am hoping to be able to take this desire to create and couple it with discovery/problem solving through a Maker Space. The library is the perfect place to offer students the opportunity to research, learn, create, and problem solve through multiple options. This self-directed learning experience will help not only with a student's self esteem, but also critical thinking. The individualized, self-directed learning associated with a Maker Space is unparalleled. I hope you find this project as exciting as the kids!
