My goal is to create a reading environment that is comfortable and welcoming for students, so that they don't view reading as a mundane task, but as an invitation to adventure inside books! As a first year teacher, I do not have many of the things that I would like to provide for my 2nd grade students, but being able to give these students to see reading in a whole new light and become confident readers is something that I am striving to do. These materials would be used during their independent reading time in Reader's Workshop daily during school. The students will sit around the room with their own reading bags and dive into books of their choice. My goal is to keep it a very peaceful time; I play soft music in the background, while monitoring my students. Being able to provide them with a warm, comforting atmosphere with many options of books to choose from will help us as a class become better readers.
