The 6th grade students at my school are curious, enthusiastic and eager to develop skills that will help them in their adult lives. The student body comes from a diverse cultural and socio-economic background and represents a cross section of the vibrant and diverse community of Oakland, California. Students are eager to engage with technology in the classroom but often the public school system fails to deliver technology that is relevant and state-of-the-art. My students understand that technological literacy go hand in hand with reading literacy in the world they will inherit. I hope to deliver them as many opportunities as possible to engage the technology. They all show a great interest in film and love reading books that are adapted into movies. With the iPad mini project, I hope to give them the opportunity to bring the books we read to life through video and video-editing software (iMovie).
