I work with a very diverse student population. Our elementary school is a Title I school with few intact families. My children often do not have adequate food or housing. Even with all that, they come each day with smiles and positive attitudes. My job is to help them catch up to grade level with their peers. Their futures are determined by how well they read and do math. In our district there is very low spending per student and we have limited resources for books and technology. This award would increase my ability to give these kids an opportunity to discover the modern world in which they must survive in. I try to help them have confidence in everything that they do, but how can they move forward with confidence having not been exposed to the same things as more privileged children have been blessed to experience.
