Statistics have shown that there is a very small percentage of hispanics in engineering careers, and an even smaller percentage of Latinas in these fields. It is projected that there will be a high demand in science, technology, and engineering related fields in the future. We need to prepare our students with the skills they need in order to perform in these highly challenging and exciting careers. I will use 3D printers to fully expose students to all the stages of the engineering process. Students will imagine, plan, create, and improve prototype models. The 3D printers will be a powerful tool to engage and motivate students. Students will have direct access to the technology and will also apply, use, and learn important engineering design skills with the printers. Students will be very excited and proud to see their creations come to life.
