Students need to learn through using robots because it gives them experiences with what effect their instructions have off of the screen, on something in real life. Students will learn about giving and following directions, problem solving and teamwork. These life experiences, combined with lessons and information shared about careers in computer science, as well as all core subjects, will help students see that there is a world of possibilities beyond the small town they call home. They will see that they are capable of being a part of that larger world if they wish to. Programming robots naturally lends itself to experiences with growth mindset. We will use a “test and learn” process; Plan, Test, Learn, Understand and repeat. This benefits students by allowing them to make mistakes in a safe environment and practice learning from those mistakes.
