Our school has grown tremendously in the past two years and now has over 400 students. Our town has a wide mix of families with the largest economic disparity gap in the country and this is reflected in our school. They are from every walk of life- from the children of university professors and the children of recent immigrants, to the children of blue-collar families and the children who are homeless. Half of our students receive free/reduced school lunch. Many students in our school are learning English as a second language. Since I have a diverse group of students from various backgrounds, I think it is important to provide a rigorous art curriculum. I want all of my students to have the opportunity to access the material and engage deeply using art as a medium.
