I teach in Jennings, one of the poorest minority districts in Missouri. Three years ago, we launched the College Prep program. My students take intensive courses, stay for mandatory tutoring, and even come in on Saturdays. They plan to begin dual enrollment with community college starting their junior year. My school provides tablets for my program, and I try to leverage them as much as possible. Many students focus better with music playing, but almost none of my students own headphones. A few do, and I loan out mine, but the first five minutes of every class is spent fighting over headphones.
