My school is known for high expectations for students, incredible teacher commitment, and tremendous parent support. Although our school is a small rural learning institute, it is a privilege to be a part of a school community dedicated to providing a caring, nurturing environment where all students are encouraged to become successful members of our community. My students all have unique voices that I encourage them to use. I love that they are involved in creating our classroom community. I know that these little minds are building not only knowledge but trust as well. This takes time and the rapport must be nurtured. My students know that I care about them because no one leaves my room without a hug and, to be honest, most days I don't know who is in more need of it, them or me. Taking the time to know my students well, not just as learners, but also as people has helped to create a real sense of belonging in our shared space. This is the “magic” that helps learning explode.
