One area that my students struggle with is reading (sight words, fluency, and comprehension). The students in my class range in reading ability. All of their reading is completed while they are in school. Many of my students do not have books at home nor someone who will sit down and spend the time with them helping them learn to read. Whether it is a student who is a stronger reader reading to a lower reader or myself reading to the class, these materials are crucial in the success for my students. These materials will benefit my students because there are a variety of ways to use them. Student comfort is important. For example, the bean bags will allow the students to read in comfort and I am able to use them as incentives for focused and appropriate behaviors. The books can be used for read and response homework. They do not complete this at home, but in class with me. The book shelf will house the books to ensure that the books are kept in the best shape to last for years. The marker boards and markers will be used during reading intervention activities (as well as in math). My students have a student learning objective that we attempt to master by the end of the school year. I use the dolch word lists to provide sight words and the reusable dry erase pockets will house the lists. The pockets allow the students to study the words and cross off the words that they have mastered (they can also be used in math for practicing math facts).
