My students are eager but very picky 6th grade readers located in a South Florida middle school. Labeled as a Title 1 school, many times students do not have the materials required to complete independent reading. While they may not have the materials, they do have the desire to learn and become proficient readers. In order to encourage increased stamina and independent reading in the classroom, a variety of high interest and relatable reading options are required. Students have identifed which books they would like to see added to the classroom library. In an effort to foster students love for reading, current relatable and high interest texts are desperately needed. My students would greatly appreciate a diverse classroom library with relatable texts.
