My STEM enrichment classes are different in the sense that they are comprised of 5th through 8th-grade students and the groups and grades change throughout the year. This makes for a challenging but interesting dynamic! Learning is hands-on and my students quickly learn to collaborate and problem solve when working on projects. Approximately every 10 weeks, I get a new group of about 25 students. They keep me on my toes as I work to instill the problem-solving and persistence habits that are important for STEM projects. Most of my students are at risk and come from low-income families and they have generally not been exposed to STEM careers. My passion is to introduce my students to STEM opportunities, build their 21st Century skills and ultimately inspire them to the possibilities of what they can become.
