I am a new Kindergarten teacher in a low income area. I teach 20 great students that are just thrilled to have pencils and paper to write with. My class loves to read and write!! We have been making our own sight word readers. Which is a great experience for learning to write, but does not help with teaching guided reading. We are a low income school that is not labeled as a title one school, so we do not get the needed funding to provide enough resources for our classrooms. I have been trying to build up a classroom library and have now realized that it is time to focus on providing leveled readers for guided reading.
