Let's make education relevant! As an art teacher in two of the four elementaries (k-6) in our district, and one who hosts her own Egyptian Art Show at the schools, the opportunity to share the King Tut exhibit with my students is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Our small district faces tough challenges in the near future, including staff reductions, increasing free/reduced lunch averages, budget shortfalls, and increased poverty. While this is not unique to our district, I believe the effort and dedication shown by our staff, students, and parents is unmatched! We are consistently looking for ways to make education relevant and rigorous for our students to lead them out of what is becoming a most vicious cycle of poverty. The trip for each of our sixth grade students is an example of that effort.
